I am pleased to announce that the Wilson County Board of Education has officially been awarded district accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI). The District Accreditation Team evaluated the Wilson County School System in March to determine our eligibility in becoming a District-wide Accredited School System and we received official notification on July 1, 2010 that we have been awarded this highly desired and prestigious status.
Bids for the new Lebanon High School will be received on July 27, 2010 at the Board of Education at 351 Stumpy Lane, Lebanon, Tennessee at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. All bids will be opened and tabulated at 4:00 p.m.
Due to the extremely hot weather, the Wilson County School District has been issuing heat advisories to the faculty and coaching staff. The heat index range of 96 and 99 degrees necessitates unlimited access to water, mandatory water breaks every 30 minutes for 10 minutes in duration in a shady area, and careful monitoring of students in outdoor activities and emphasizing that contact sports should consider removing equipment during non-contact activities and/or reschedule outdoor activities to a cooler part of the day. We will continue to monitor the weather conditions and issuing advisories through-out the sports season.
The first full student day of school is August 2, 2010. The 2010-2011 school year begins on July 27 with an Administrative Day followed by required In-service days. A copy of the school calendar may be found at www.wcschools.com, click on the Parent/Student tab and then select calendars.
I would like to extend a special invitation for you to attend our next regularly scheduled Board Meeting set for 3:00 p.m. on August 4, 2010.
